Exploring Intercultural Awareness with VET Students: garagErasmus’ Visit to Flanders and Wallonie

19 December 2024

On the 4th and 5th of December, garagErasmus visited two VET schools in Flanders and Wallonie as part of the EU-funded project P.IR.A.M.iD - Path for Intercultural Awareness, Measurement, and Development.

garagErasmus explored the concept of intercultural awareness with VET students and introduced the Lewis Model, a practical tool for understanding and navigating cultural differences. During the sessions, students had the opportunity to complete a pilot personality test to discover where they stand according to the Lewis Model. This model categorises cultures into Multi-Active, Linear-Active, and Reactive behavioural types. Belgian society is often characterised as lying between Multi-Active (relationship-focused) and Linear-Active (structured and task-oriented). The students’ test results aligned with these traits, with most identifying as either Multi-Active or Linear-Active.

Throughout the day, garagErasmus hosted an information desk where students could explore more about the Project and discover the wide range of opportunities available through the Erasmus+ programme. garagErasmus also shared with students the exciting opportunity to participate in a mobility period within the framework of the P.IR.A.M.iD Project, during which VET students will play an active role in developing an online course on this topic.
